Sometimes you gotta play both...
We talked over all sorts of goofy ideas for getting around the Darien Gap. Though when we met a sailboat Captain leaving immediately for Cartegena and he would take us and bikes for roughly half price, it seemed silly to say no. The stipulation for getting the reduced price was that we would get dumped on a island in the San Blas for two days. It was brutal. Punished with paradise. Exiled and flogged with tropical relaxation.
So after our few days as willing castaways. We`re all back on the boat and had dropped anchor off an isalnd practicaly surrounded by jagged reef. It was Chris who noticed first. He yelled and we all looked up. Our dingy had slipped its tie and had drifted off towards a wave crashing reef line. So quickly and without much thought I dove in and swam like the bejeezus. I swam till my arms were useless painful noodles (This really wasn`t very far cuz i sure don`t get much upper body work out riding a bike all day). When I made it across to the dingy the water was so shallow I could stand on the reef. There was no way we could have recovered it with the sailboat. So I felt like the hero until I found a soaking wet camera in its sheath on my belt. I seem to be leaving a trail of destroyed electronics in my wake. So sorry no pics for a while, till I can sort out a new snapper.
